Joan can’t get enough permaculture! She completed her first design course with Larry Santoyo in ’02 and continues to expand her understanding having recently completed a 3-week design course with the Bullock brothers on Orcas Island. She’s completed teacher trainings with Micheal Kramer and Christopher Peck and another one with Jude Hobbs and Tom Ward.
Joan’s academic training was in ethnobotany and microbiology. Having worked with the world experts on the study of medicinal plants in Samoa, Vancouver B.C. and Hawaii Joan applied her studies to understand local plant medicine traditions for her M.S. research. In permaculture she has studied with the best designers and teachers on the West Coast and has been teaching with Larry Santoyo for several years. She has dedicated her life to transforming the relationship that people have to the planet.
A high school science teacher by day, Joan studies several disciplines of yoga and teaches at an Anusara studio. Joan is also a student of Landmark Education and is an accomplishment person for the Wisdom course – bring fun, play, freedom, and ease into her life and the lives of those around her. Her mission is to build an Eden on earth for future generations.
Joan is excited to see the world around her as it could be – renewable home-scale energy systems, rainwater catchment from every roof, edible trees lining our streets, gardens throughout peoples yards and neighbors sharing the fruits of the harvest with each other – and excited to have just the right team of allies coming together to make it happen! Go Team!
